i don’t know where to start with this because their isn’t a right or wrong answer to success and how it is being pursued today in life.
But i know achieving something like a goal or anything else that you would succeed for. one example is if you want to succeed in something you got to practice at it first like for instance memorizing a verse in the bible or improving in bowling or even when running in cross country you got to practice so you can get better. being the perfect one in class isn’t the best way to succeed because you are overwhelming yourself by getting angry if you don’t receive the grade you wanted or the score on a test. i think that people just need to set one goal for themselves and not a whole load full because you cant succeed at them all at once and it is hard to do it.
for example i set a goal for myself by improving on my bowling but first it takes time and practice out of your day to do so. a lot of people when bowling are serious that if they don’t get a score they wanted that they just quit on themselves but im not that way. i just bowl for the fun of it and the exercise. if i don’t get the score i wanted i try my best to improve on it when practicing. it also the same way when reading the bible or memorizing verses. it takes time to sit down and do those things you wanted but getting angry because you didn’t get the first time is not a good way to succeed.

James makes a good point in that it is not wrong to want to succeed at something. Success in and of itself is not a bad thing and we should seek it in what we do. After all, God does not want us to do things half-heartedly…but instead to do everything as well as we can.
However, the key is why we do things with excellence and why we try to succeed and do well. Do we do it because we want people to approve of us and think we are great? Or do we do it as an act of worship to God?
If we do it for the idol of man’s approval, then we will do anything to succeed…it will own us.
If we do it for God’s honor, then there will be times when we stop pursuing a goal or choose not to practice or compete at something…because it would hinder our pursuit of God.

do you want more input on this question on why people succeed in goals they pursue or how they are being used when chosen. i think that people try to hard to find a way to succeed and put themselves into stress when they don’t need to worry. it is great that people strive to succeed at their goals in life but they do not need to be over confident about it if they don’t get them perfect.
comment on this . I like giving my opinion about these questions. thank you ken. this is a great idea.

Thanks James! I’m thankful for your input. You’re absolutely right when you say people “try too hard to succeed and put themselves into stress when they don’t need to worry.” What I’m really trying to show is that what you describe is actually turning “success” into an idol. When they don’t get this success or fear losing it, they respond with anger, fear, and despair…just like if you lost your life. The reason is that their “success” had become their life. It had become their functional god.
