WELCOME!

New to Northpoint? If you have questions and want to know more about us, stop by the Information Center at the east side of the Foyer. Pick up a visitor’s packet, or just talk to some of the friendly people there about Northpoint.

GROWTH GROUPS – GET CONNECTED

We believe major life change happens when we are committed to applying the truths of Scripture while living life together. We also believe this kind of living happens best in small groups, or Growth Groups. Groups meet at various times and places during the week. For more, visit the Ministries page at northpointcorona.org.

WINDOW INTO NORTHPOINT – REVOLVE

Revolve is the college and young adult ministry of our church. We get together every Sunday evening to grow as a community while we experience the challenges that come with life in college and at the beginning of important life decisions. We accomplish that through small groups, group study and discussion, and pursuing each other in friendships. Currently, Revolve is going through a survey of every book in Scripture to get a better understanding of the entire picture of redemption. Each week we read one book and then spend time Sunday evening discussing themes, theology, and application.

One of the best ways to get acquainted with Revolve is to join us for a retreat. Our Winter Retreat is taking place February 20-22, in Frazier Park, at the Pine Mountain Club. We’ll be taking a tour through the book of Revelation with guest speaker Dr. Greg Harris, Professor of Bible Exposition at the Master’s Seminary. The cost for the weekend is $100.00, and scholarships are available if needed.

For more information about Revolve and the retreat, email Pastor Jonathan Clubb, or join our group on Facebook.

SERMON NOTES

Fight Club
James 4:1-6
Pastor John Sloan

Introduction: Nothing tests our understanding of, and commitment to the gospel more than living with broken and sinful people (like us) on a broken and sin-cursed world (like ours). It’s fair to say that it’s in our relationships, perhaps, more than any other area, that what we truly believe comes out. But how do we make sense of all the conflict we experience? And what, if anything, can we do about it?

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION & DISCOVERY

1. What does James mean when he says that our passions are at war within us (verse 1)? Where do ungodly desires come from?

2. How desperate would you say you are in your prayers? What does it mean to ask God for something “wrongly” (verse 3)?

3. What does “friendship with the world” (verse 4) look like in everyday life? How does that put a person “at enmity with God”?

4. How is intentionally engaging unbelievers different than pursuing friendship with the world?

5. In what specific ways have you seen God’s grace at work in your life this week, particularly in your relationships?
