What are the Goals of Growth Groups?

What are the goals a Growth Group?

Our Growth groups strive to achieve these 5 biblical objectives:

Growth in Christ

As we grow in our knowledge of God and the gospel, God transforms us into His likeness bringing us into deeper connection with Christ and other believers.  This happens when you connect God’s People together with God’s Word. Each week we’ll study a section from God’s Word that relates to the previous weekend’s sermon or an appropriate spiritual growth topic that is biblically based.  Our goal is to learn how to live out our Christianity in everyday life.

Authentic Community

The early church is described as a group of people who devoted themselves to being  transparent and authentic, who shared meals, met regularly, and open their lives as they discussed God’s word. Each week we’ll take time to share what is happening in our lives and get to know one another. Connection best occurs when everyone in the group comes ready and prepared to share.

Mutual  Ministry

Growth Groups are not support groups, counseling groups, nor are they pure study groups. Rather these groups are a means of allowing the congregation to shepherd and disciple each other. Each week we’ll learn how to take care of one another as Christ commanded going beyond mere support to actual discipleship. This type of ministry can take many forms such as prayer, encouragement, listening, keeping confidences, confessing sin, challenging one another, and meeting at times with just the men or just the women.

Multiplication

Growth groups are an ideal context to assimilate new members, train up leaders, and expand the ministry of the church. Growth groups are an avenue that can train members in a variety of skills – leading a prayer time, leading a study, leading worship, nurturing a new Christian or even becoming an apprentice leader who will one day have his own group.  Each group will have as a priority the equipping of new leaders and aiding in launching new groups.

Service

Spiritual growth is fostered not only by what we gain through the support and input of others, but also through service alongside each other. These groups are committed to not just serving each other but being a light in our communities by living missionally.
