CloseVery few people in Southern California live in an agrarian context, where they live off the land; thus, very few of us ever think about shepherds or sheep. The only sheep that most people have ever seen reside in a petting zoo. But if we were to watch the shepherds of the Middle East, even today, we would see why the Old Testament uses the term shepherd to describe those who have been entrusted with the care of God’s people.
