A NOTE TO PARENTS FROM TYLER VAN HORSSEN

Dear Parents of SM,

We are so excited to partner with you in discipling your students. The teen years are some of the most formative years of an individual’s life, so reaching teens with the gospel of Jesus Christ is essential in faithfully discipling the next generation and furthering God’s kingdom. We recognize that the need for intentional student discipleship is an ever-increasing need, as the pressures of becoming captivated by things other than the majesty of Christ become more and more prevalent. However, despite the changing and ever-increasing pressures to conform to the world, Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and his glory will continue to extend into all the world, and the good news will move in the hearts of students. In Student Ministries, our goal is to make disciples who Love GodLove One Another, and Reach His World with the cross of Christ. We want the next generation to recognize the person and work of Jesus Christ. Therefore, SM exists to equip the next generation to display and showcase the majesty of Jesus Christ in all things for the joy of all peoples and nations.

Below, you can see how that plays out on Sundays, midweek, and through our camps.

In Christ,

Tyler Van Horssen

SM VALUES / FAITH. FUN. FELLOWSHIP.

The values of SM are threefold, and they flow out of our understanding of the gospel. First, we value a faith that is joyful, growing, and missional. We are serious about the Christian life and want to help students understand the gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as equip them to live a gospel-centered life. Second, we value fun that is planned and sacrificial. We are intentional about games, events (6 per year), and hang-out time. We enjoy sacrificing our needs in order to make youth group fun for the students and not for ourselves, even though we will have fun anyway. Third, we value fellowship that is consistent, loving, and small. We strive to encourage all students and staff to attend regularly to foster the best possible relationships for discipleship. We exercise love in all relationships. And, we attempt to create small groups to best foster long-term discipleship and intimacy.

Sundays at Northpoint SM

On Sundays, junior high and senior high students meet together at 9:00 a.m., upstairs in the Youth Room, to fellowship with other students, worship, and to hear a gospel message.

Midweek Meetings (Youth Group)

On Tuesday nights, our junior high and senior high students meet together upstairs in the Youth Room. Here’s what to expect:

Tuesday nights, from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., are a time of games and small group discipleship. We use this night to gather in groups, divided by grade and gender, to discuss and apply the teachings from Sunday. Dedicated small group leaders will build relationships with students and guide them in thinking about how to live out what the Bible shows us.
