Gospel Powered Parenting Book Review – Part 3
Here is our last look at William Farley’s Gospel Powered Parenting. I would highly encourage this book for any parent, grandparent or anyone else who would like to learn much about their own soul.
“The fear of God equips parents to overcome the fear of their children. They can disappoint their children, but they dare not disappoint God. Why? They believe that God is sovereign over thier children’s hearts. God holds all the strings. He is in control. Those who really believe this are free to be God pleasers rather than child fearers. Parents lacking this confidence will often be slaves to their children’s approval. Parents who fear God have only one audience: God.” p.172
“Christians parent with one eye on eternity. their children will live forever. This is a staggering thought. We cannot imagine “forever.” Nevertheless, the destiny of our children either will be love that surpasses knowledge, joy inexpressible and full of glory, coupled with peace that passes understanding, or it will be weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. There is no middle ground. Therefore, the Christian does not parent for this life only. The believing parent labors ot prepare each child for the day of judgment. The stakes are inexpressibly high.” p.41
“When a father takes his family to church each Sunday, pretending that Christ is first in his life, but in reality makes his hobbies number one, his children see it. They grow hard and calloused to church and religion.” p.117
“The gospel humbles us, and that humility attracts our children to our teaching.” p.118
