Men’s Summer Breakfast Series – THIS Saturday!

What Are You Aiming at?

Northpoint’s Men of the Word will be hosting the second installment of the Men’s Summer Breakfast Series is THIS Saturday, August 15, at 7:00 a.m., in Heritage Hall. We are encouraging as many of you as can to attend.

In II Corinthians 5:9b (ESV), Paul says “we make it our aim to please Him.”

The word “ambition” signifies that which is a goal, an aspiration, a hope, an aim. Thus, Paul is saying that his goal/aim/hope is to please (satisfy/give pleasure to) the Lord. We must truly understand and grasp the truth that who we are and what we do are important to the Lord. Put another way: Who we are and what we do can bring pleasure and joy to the heart of the Lord. Note Psalm 147:10: “The Lord delights (takes pleasure in) those who fear (reverence) Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” And Jeremiah 9:24: “But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”

This brings us to ask a fundamental question: Do I want to please the Lord? Or do I seek to please the Lord (mostly) when it is comfortable to me? This is the war we face within us.

I have found in my own life that the greatest joy and pleasure I experience is when I know I have done something, or said something, or even thought something which pleased the Lord. And that in turn makes me want to do or to say or think another thing that will bring joy and pleasure to Him; and then another, then another. I find what John Piper says in the preface of his book Desiring God to be true: “God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him continues to be a spectacular and precious truth in my mind and heart.”

Ask the Lord today: What in your life would bring Him the greatest joy and pleasure? Then seek with your whole heart to bring a smile to the face of God.

Come and join together with us on August 15!
