Paradise Mission Trip “Help Wanted”

Dear Church family,

Many of you know about the 2018 Camp Fires that burned through Paradise, California, killing 85 people and burning nearly 19,000 buildings. This was referred to as the deadliest wildfire in California’s history. Over 7,600 homes were destroyed, including those of more than 80 families from the local Evangelical Free Church. Amazingly, over 90% of the city of Paradise was destroyed.

Today, although many homesites have been cleared, very few homes have been rebuilt. The reasons for that are many, but for a good number of families, the cost of rebuilding is prohibitive. That’s where we can help. We can volunteer our time to help the residents of Paradise. To that end, we are partnering with ReachGlobal Crisis Response to send a team from Northpoint to serve these communities by helping to clear debris and rebuild homes.

Our team will also seek to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of the residents by spending time with homeowners, conducting neighborhood prayer walks, attending community outreach-based events, and by involving ourselves in other projects as the needs arise.

And, no matter how we help, we pray that our service will translate into opportunities to share our faith—to help them also “rebuild” their lives with the love of Jesus Christ.

Even if you can’t serve with the team going to Paradise, your help is still needed! With this in mind, I want to announce a church-wide campaign we are planning where we will collect letters of encouragement to present to families affected by the fire. Our desire is to mobilize the whole church for this task because we want to be sure you have the opportunity to bless these families.

Our goal:

  • Collect 2 to 3 encouragement notes for 50+ families. We encourage you to write these cards with your family so that the families of Paradise will receive a variety of messages.
  • Raise funds for the Northpoint Paradise Team and the ReachGlobal missionaries in Paradise, CA

Here are the encouragement card details:

Collection dates: September 12–September 29
Drop off Time: Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or Sundays at the Northpoint Paradise Team table.
Drop off Location: Church Office

If you would like to write cards for a family or families, you can pick up a name(s) from the Northpoint Paradise Team table on Sunday, or you can email Colin Cordill at ccordill@northpointcorona.org, and he can give you the name(s) and details.

Here are the details for giving:

There are two ways to give toward this project: First, you can give online by clicking HERE to connect to our secure Giving Page. Once there, choose the “Missions Fund- Paradise Project” and complete the process. Second, you can send a check to Northpoint (988 W. Ontario Avenue, Corona, CA 92882). Please make the check payable to “Northpoint” and write “Paradise Project” on the memo line.

Finally, I would like to encourage you to pray that God would use the team that will be going from Northpoint to reach out to the people of Paradise with the hope of the gospel in words and deeds.
