The God Who Hears
Matthew 6:11-13

Introduction: Naturally, it is appropriate and right for God’s people to come to their Creator and simply worship and praise him. He is, after all, God. Even so, biblical prayer is at the very heart petitionary. It involves God’s people bringing their needs to their Father. In fact, every one of the statements in the Lord’s Prayer is an urgent request of God, with the final three representing pleas for the fulfillment of personal needs.

Questions for Discussion & Discovery
1. What is included in the request for “our daily bread” (verse 11)?
2. One distinctive of Christian prayer is the nature of the God we address. What does the Lord’s Prayer tell us about God? How are these characteristics of God reflected in your own prayers?
3. Are there concerns that are simply too small to bother God with? How so?
4. When God forgives us he cancels our moral debt and frees us completely; but he also credits our account with something incredible. What is it and how does that strengthen us?
5. If God justifies us at the moment of our conversion and forever declares us “not guilty” because of Christ’s righteousness, then why do we need to regularly ask God for his forgiveness (verse12)?
6. Does God lead his children into temptation (cf. James 1:13)? If not, what is the meaning of Matthew 6:13?
