Laws about Social Justice
As we read through some of the laws this week in Exodus, it can seem like they have no application in current day. We have to remember, though, that God’s Word always applies! Exodus 23:2 says, “You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice.”
No, we don’t often see the need to prevent someone from lying with an animal today. There isn’t a bride price to pay when a virgin is seduced (at least not in the United States). And we don’t often see sacrifices being made to false gods. But we do struggle with following the crowd! We do see people losing what they believe to be true because others believe something different. We even see that within the Church, as interpretations get perverted and skewed, we see seemingly solid Christians being led astray in the name of “new interpretation”. But even aside from that, we see society waning in it’s foundation. What society would not condone a few years ago is now looked upon as simply another lifestyle.
There is a reason the road to Heaven is considered narrow. We must always test everything we see, hear, and do with the Word of God. And especially when we see droves of people following a common path. We must make sure that we do not forsake truth for the purpose of “going along with the crowd.”
