The Coming Hope
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Pastor Scott Williams
Introduction: Although this newly founded church at Thessalonica had a growing faith and demonstrated compelling love for one another, they were a group of struggling believers. They were struggling with loss. A number of people in their church family had died, and they were deeply confused. Paul encourages them with the eternal hope that Christ will one day return, bringing with him all believers who have perished.

Questions For Discussion & Discovery
1. One of the main problems the church at Thessalonica faced was a lack of biblical understanding regarding death, and because of that, they made assumptions. What is the danger of making assumptions when we do not have a proper understanding?
2. What does it mean to “grieve as those who have no hope”? How have you seen this reality at different times in your life?
3. Read verses 16 and 17. What kind of picture is Paul painting of Christ’s return? Look up some of the cross-references in your Bible for additional help.
4. How does the promise of Christ’s return bring hope? Why do we often forget or neglect this wonderful truth?
